Western Kentucky University will not require Covid-19 vaccinations
BOWLING GREEN Ky.-As this current semester at Western Kentucky University wraps up, university officials say students will not be required to get the vaccine to return to campus in the fall.
Even though vaccinations aren’t and never were required at WKU, officials like director of media relations Bob Skipper still encourage students to get the vaccine if they haven’t already.
Skipper said the reasoning for not requiring the vaccine is that it would be better to encourage rather than require vaccinations since they are authorized for emergency use.
WKU will also not offer the vaccines on campus. Skipper said between 900 and 1,000 students came to get vaccinated while it was offered. However, he emphasizes that students and staff still remain attentive in this fight against the virus.
“We still need to remain vigilant and take precautions to protect ourselves and other people. The light is shining at the end of the tunnel. We want to make sure we stay on track to get to that point,” Skipper said.
