(WSFA/NBC News) What would you do if your son or daughter received more more than $450,000 in college scholarship offers?
An Alababma student received just as much but he’s putting traditional college on hold to serve his country.
In all, Quinton McCorvey II, a senior at Montgomery’s Loveless Academic Magnet Program High School, received nearly half a million dollars in college offers.
He was ready to head to Howard University in Washington, D.C., when he got one more acceptance letter to the U.S. Military Academy, West Point.
“Coming from a military family, it wasn’t that foreign of an idea to me with the example set by my parents, it was something that took interest to me,” McCorvey says.
His mother and father served during Operation Desert Storm. His dad led a Patriot Firing Battery that brought down two Iraqi Scud Missiles.
