Weekend panel shares experiences to encourage autism awareness

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – April is Autism Awareness Month, and a few local organizations and nonprofits spent the weekend creating a space for people in the Bowling Green community to learn about autism.

Lifeworks for Autism partnered with the Warren County Public Library to showcase a panel and the movie “Life Animated.”

The film was about a man who has autism, but that did not limit his life experiences. The people on the panel shared how they related to the film and shared their personal development and community involvement.

Hendrix Brakefield, program director at Lifeworks for Autism, says, “So this is just bringing together the best of both worlds. You know, the focus of the documentary and of the panel is highlighting people’s individual skills and strengths. But to have a community event really is also aligned with our belief in getting out, bringing people together, shared interests and goals.”

This is not the only time you can experience all of the resources that Lifeworks offers. They are also hosting an open house. To learn more, click here.
