WCPS holds bi-annual International Family Night
WARREN COUNTY, Ky. – Warren County Public Schools held its international family night at Jennings Creek Elementary on Monday, providing English as a second language (ESL) families with resources to navigate the American school system as well as community services.
The event featured four stations for families to attend, showing the resources for not just the international students, but also their whole family.
“As ESL families, especially, to say, you know, we’re not we’re here is our community partner, we believe and it takes a village. So, we want our parents to know that we are here to assist them not only with their child’s education, but also if they’re in need of different things, like a job application.” WCPS Director of EL Jeanie Hopkins said. “So we’re a resource, for our families, not just for their educational part.”
Translators were available to ensure families could fully participate. Children took part in educational activities while their parents engaged with the resources. The district also provided bus transportation to improve accessibility. Hopkins noted that the turnout increased significantly this year due to its central location within the community.
The district currently has over 3,500 ESL students. Warren County Schools plans to continue hosting the event twice a year, aiming to strengthen connections with all families.
