WCPS elementary schools participating in recycling contest

WARREN COUNTY, Ky. – Warren County Elementary Schools will be participating in a friendly recycling competition starting this week.
Kicking off Thursday morning at 8:30 a.m. at Briarwood Elementary School, area schools will team up with local scrapyards to teach kids that cans don’t belong in the trash.
The initiative will include 15 schools in Bowling Green through the BALL corporation, according to a release by WCPS.
The students will learn the importance of recycling while also earning extra funds for their school.
All students, teachers and staff can bring cans from home and around town to recycle in a provided bin from a local scrapyard. The more cans you collect, the more money your school will get.
Students in third grade will get free copies of the book “The Girl Who Recycled 1 Million Cans.”
Prizes include first place at $1,500, second place at $1,000, third place at $500 and most valuable recycler at $1,000.
