WATCH: Louisville man flees police, crashes into Martinsville Road home
SMITHS GROVE, Ky. – A high-speed pursuit ended with a Louisville man crashing into a Martinsville Road home on Friday evening.
According to a citation, a Kentucky State Police trooper was stationary at the I-65 northbound ramp, when a motor vehicle traveling at 103 mph and then exited the interstate using the Oakland exit.
The trooper says the vehicle continued onto Glasgow Road and failed to stop.
The motor vehicle operator turned right onto Highway 101 traveling at a high rate of speed. The operator then turned onto Martinsville Road.
The operator lost control of the motor vehicle then drove through a field, crashed through two fences, and went airborne.
The pursuit ended when the operator crashed into the garage of a Martinsville Road residence, pushing the vehicle in the garage through drywall. The homeowners were present at the residence at the time of the crash.
The trooper says that the operator exited the vehicle and complied with the trooper’s commands.
The operator is identified as Amani Mabamba, 23 of Louisville.
According to the citation, the trooper says the operator showed signs of being under the influence. The operator stated that he had been smoking methamphetamine and marijuana earlier on Friday. Troopers say they located an unknown substance in the vehicle.
The operator was transported to the Medical Center of Bowling Green and cleared of injuries. The operator consented to a blood test and then withdrew his consent. He was transported to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.
Troopers located a license plate in the vehicle and determined the vehicle was stolen in Louisville.
Mabamba is charged with possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance 1st degree, 1st offense (methamphetamine), fleeing or evading police, 1st degree (motor vehicle), reckless driving, no registration receipt, no registration plates, criminal mischief, 1st degree, operating motor vehicle under the influence of substance (189a.010(1c) – 1st, operating on suspended or revoked operator’s license, and receiving stolen property $10,000 or more.
Mabamba is lodged at the Warren County Detention Center.
