WATCH: Kentucky nurses goes above and beyond, gives patient her shoes
MADISONVILLE, Ky. (WFIE) – A Kentucky nurse went above and beyond the call of duty for one of her patients.
Lou Coulon works as a nurse at Baptist Health Deaconess Madisonville.
A couple of months ago, she noticed the patient was not properly dressed to handle the cold weather.
Instead of looking the other way, she took her own shoes off of her feet and gave them to the patient.
Coulon says she was simply doing her job.
Coulon says, “Something was just nudging me. I heard a voice saying, ‘Hey take off your shoes.’ It was really cold and I knew that I did not have any more shoes. I just got some of those patient socks that have the non grips and I put them over my socks. I thought ‘oh that will get me to the car.'”
Coulon has been a nurse at Baptist Health Deaconess Madisonville for six years.
For eight years before that, she worked there as a housekeeper, studying and learning everything she needed to know to be a good caretaker.
Coulon says part of her profession is to “seek and look and pay attention to the welfare of these patients and to meet the needs that we can while they’re in our care.”
