Warren RECC warns customers of phone scam

WARREN COUNTY, Ky. – Warren County residents should be aware of a new scam to be on the lookout for.

Many Warren Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation customers have received scam calls about urgent payments that need to be paid, and Warren RECC wants to encourage everyone not to give in to the pressure.

If a scammer calls, they may ask for your credit card number, a gift card or Venmo.

News 40 sat down with the WRECC director of communications, who says they will never call you to pay your bill.

Kim Phelps, the senior director of communications, says, “There are people who do want to prey on, people who might have just a good heart and be trusting. And, we certainly appreciate all our members and we certainly don’t want anyone to be taken advantage of. So the best thing to do, just make sure, just give us a call.”

If you are concerned that scammers are contacting you, hang up and contact Warren RECC directly.
