Warren East begins construction of new artificial turf baseball field
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Warren East baseball team finished the 2025 season as runners up in the 4th Region and the Raiders will see a lot of change in 2026 following the graduation of 10 seniors, but that isn’t the only difference Raider nation will find next spring.
As part of an ongoing Warren County Public Schools facility upgrades plan that Greenwood and Warren Central have already seen success with, Warren East is in the process of making the switch from a grass baseball field to an artificial turf infield and bullpens.
Head coach Wes Sanford has previously done all the work on the Raiders field and, in the words of athletic director Brandon Combs, has made it look like the Augusta National Golf Course, as far as conditions are concerned.
Sanford will now have less work to do before gameday but will still have the outfield grass to keep himself busy.
Wednesday, Combs spoke on the construction process, which looks to be completed in just a couple of months and has started by filling in three sinkholes that were discovered this season.
“ They started on Monday as you can see. [There’s] a lot of work going on and I guess as they say, it’s the cost of progress,” said Combs. “I’m excited for the community. I’m excited for Coach Sanford. You know, I can’t think of a baseball staff that deserves this more than them. They produce every year, [have] a lot of continuity within their coaching staff, and they get the most out of their kids.”
