Warren County’s Ephram White Park becomes designated drone launch site
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- A park in Warren County has become the area’s first designated spot for drone pilots to fly their unmanned aircraft.
At Friday morning’s Fiscal Court meeting, magistrates voted to make Ephram White Park an official drone launch site.
The county’s parks and recreation department is eliminating the park’s old remote control race car track to build the area for drone pilots.
The site will be 150 yds wide and 250 yds in length.
According to Parks and Recreation Director, Chris Kummer, the plans have been in the works for the last six months.
His department has been in close contact with the staff at the Bowling Green-Warren County Regional Airport to ensure all FAA rules and regulations are followed pertaining to unmanned aircraft.
Kummer says the community has been itching for something like this.
“We’re in the recreation business,” said Kummer. “First and foremost, we want to make sure it’s a safe place. We have been working with different community members to make this happen. I think it’s a great addition.”
The new course will be operational in about two weeks.
Drone pilots will not be permitted to fly their aircraft above 60 ft.
