Warren County waiting on presidential emergency declaration after April flooding
UPDATE: President Donald J. Trump approves emergency declaration for Kentucky
WARREN COUNTY, Ky. – Counties in our area are waiting for a presidential emergency declaration so that the Federal Emergency Management Agency can make funds available to help cities and counties repair public infrastructure as well as assist citizens and businesses with their flood damages.
The recent denial of Butler County’s application for the February floods has made some nervous about the process.
Doug Gorman, Warren County judge executive, says there has been a lot of damage throughout the country, and the process just takes time.
Gorman says, “There’s a lot hinging on getting this federal declaration. And so we’re working with our state and federal legislation bodies trying to ensure that we’re in line and that we can get that. We have all the hopes in the world of getting that. We have had no indication we’re not going to, but it has not been signed yet. So we’re in the waiting game and just doing everything we can behind the scenes to ensure that happens.”
Assistance to public entities and individuals is requested separately and can be approved or denied separately on a county by county basis.
Gorman said that Warren County has met the threshold for assistance.
