Warren County spends $1.9 million for new home of Emergency Operations Center

WARREN COUNTY, Ky. -The Warren County Fiscal Court called an emergency meeting to approve payment for a piece of property that will become home to the new Emergency Operations Center.

The purchase, just over $1.9 million, secures a property on Airway Court, next to the Bowling Green Regional Airport. The new location will house emergency operations, the Warren County Drug Task Force and other agencies.

Warren County judge-executive Doug Gorman says bringing these groups together under one roof will improve response times and boost coordination during emergencies.

“When large events happen, you have these agencies that have to deal with each other and having that command and control one specific area that the county, the city, all agencies, federal, state can, can come together to meet to to mitigate these events, to try to figure out the best way for the community to handle those. It’s always important to have that consolidation,” Gorman said.

With the location being right next to the airport, any state or federal bodies that would be responding to emergencies have quick and easy access to the emergency operations center.

“It’s right connected to the airport. So in the event of a disaster, people coming in by air, federal government were right there. They can meet on site. And so we’re excited about that too. But we’ll we’ll have that property will be closed this week, and then here and about August, end of August, we’ll start that renovation out there,” Gorman said.

Gorman says that this building is much needed as the old location not only was dated but also lacked the space to hold meetings with all of the agencies in the event of the emergency.
