Warren County sheriff reminds taxpayers of new location

Pay Property Taxes Here Warren Co Sheriff

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WNKY) — With Warren County property tax bills now out, Sheriff Brett Hightower is reminding residents that the sheriff’s office has moved and that taxes are no longer paid at its former location.

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office is now at 1347 Kentucky Highway 185 at Sugar Maple Square. Hightower said some residents are still going to the courthouse out of habit and then realizing the sheriff’s office is no longer there.

Finding the right entrance

Once taxpayers arrive at the new location, Hightower said signs outside the building are meant to point them toward the correct entrance.

“When they pull up here, they’ll see a sign up front that says pay taxes here,” Hightower said. “And so it kind of helps direct folks. We’ve seen some folks that will gravitate towards the other end of the building with a large logo down there, which is the training center. So we’re kind of on the opposite end of the building.”

The business offices are on the opposite end from the training center. Hightower said the new location also gives visitors more room to park than the previous facility.

“We have all this parking here,” he said. “And so it’s been really easy to get people in and out here. I think once they get here, they’re very pleased with how easy it is to find a parking space and come inside and get all their business taken care of.”

Other services at the sheriff’s office

Property tax collection is not the only service handled at the new location.

Hightower said concealed-carry permit and vehicle inspections are also handled there. The office has a lane specifically for vehicle inspections, and taxpayers are asked not to use that lane as a drive-thru for tax payments.

Vehicle tags are still handled through the Warren County Clerk’s Office, Hightower said.

Tax deadlines and payment options

Taxpayers can receive a 2% discount by paying through Nov. 1.

Hightower said the final week of the discount period is typically one of the busier times because many taxpayers wait until the deadline approaches.

“So in the last week of this month, you’re going to see a little bit longer lines because everybody’s going to be rushing to get in before the end of the 2%,” Hightower said.

Property owners who wait until January or later will face additional penalties.

Those who do not want to pay inside the office have other options. Hightower said payments can be made online through the sheriff’s office website or placed in a drop box outside the building.

The drop box is checked multiple times each day and is monitored by a camera, according to Hightower.

Online payments carry an additional fee.

Hightower said the department is still settling into the new facility and expects to add more signage in the future.
