Warren County Sheriff Brett Hightower hosts town hall in Smiths Grove

SMITHS GROVE, Ky. – The Warren County Sheriff’s Office hosted a town hall in Smiths Grove to make the community aware of some things they may not know about.

“We all stay busy, but this is a good way for us to get together and share information… hear things that we haven’t heard about… and a good way to collaborate,” Sheriff Brett Hightower says.

At the Smiths Grove Fire Department, Sheriff Brett Hightower hosts a town hall for the community to make their voices heard on a variety of topics.

“Everything from the sheriff’s office to roads to road projects… just a lot of good questions from folks talking about parks, everything you can imagine,” Hightower says.

The main question on everyone’s mind: how can Buc-ee’s impact traffic? Luckily, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet was on hand with some answers.

“First of all, we’re going to try everything we can to make sure that we’re improving mobility from a practical standpoint,” Joe Plunk of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 3 says. “The road construction that Buc-ee’s paid for out there, the contractors walked away pretty well done. Now we’re talking about how we communicate with folks that they can use both lanes to get into Buc-ee’s. That’s been the problem we didn’t foresee.”

Many other topics were addressed, including some other road projects in the community, and overall Hightower says it was a productive forum with input from elected officials and residents.

“I think that’s what government is kind of about,” he says. “It’s for the people, to the people and getting that direct response, giving people the opportunity to ask sometimes hard questions in front of people and trying to go through those and try to understand the process of how the different government functions work. I think it was a good time. We like to do these all across Warren County and so I’m always excited to be a part of it.”
