Warren County set to open two new severe weather shelters
The Warren County Parks and Recreation Department will soon open two new severe weather shelters in the community.
One is located at Phil Moore Park and the other at Ed Spear Park.
Construction on the shelters started about six months ago.
Both facilities can withstand maximum sustained winds of 250 miles-per-hour and should open within the next ten business days.
The shelters can also accommodate more than 300 people each.
According to Warren County Parks and Recreation Department Director, Chris Kummer, the shelters aren’t just designed for park visitors.
"We do keep the facilities open anytime there is a tornado watch," said Kummer. "In the event, it’s at midnight, two o’clock, three o’clock in the morning, they are going to be open and there will be staff to staff them. It’s a public service and we are here to provide a safe space for people to come."
