Warren County School District teams up with others to sue vaping manufacturers

BOWLING GREEN Ky.- In a Warren County school board meeting Tuesday night, multiple topics were discussed, one being a lawsuit against the vaping manufacturer Juul.

“This is something we’ve been examining for quite some time. We’ve seen a rise in the number of incidents in our schools involving the vape products. More recently, we were contacted by a couple of attorneys about the challenges that we’re facing, and that there would be a multi-district lawsuit,” said Warren County School District Superintendent Rob Clayton.

Multi district is the key term. Warren County School board member Amy Duvall said the fact that more than one school district is tackling this should send a clear message to Juul that marketing to teens is harmful.

“I think with five other school districts, it’s going to be impactful to Juul and the vaping industry for us to let them know how they’re impacting the educational process, and that it’s impacting the students’ health and well-being,” Duvall said.

Additionally, the district hopes this will be a lesson to students as well.

“I think it does tell the students that we take it seriously. It tells the students that vaping is harmful to their health,” Duvall said.

The end goal of the district is to ensure parents and students that student safety above all is the priority.

“Anytime that we can step in and be proactive in an attempt to ensure the safety of our students is something that our community would expect of us. It has always been our top priority to ensure the safety of our students and our staff, and I think this is just one minor example of our commitment to meeting that expectation,” Clayton said.

The district emphasizes that this lawsuit will bear no cost to county taxpayers.
