Warren County purchases property for future emergency management headquarters

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – At the Warren County Fiscal Court meeting Thursday morning, officials took the first step in creating an emergency operations center.

They purchased property adjacent to the airport. The existing building will be renovated, and the land provides room for additional facilities, including a storm shelter.

The new headquarters will allow emergency management the room to coordinate disaster recoveries with partner agencies.

Doug Gorman, Warren County judge executive, says, “And then in the case of emergencies, large scale emergencies, we’ll have a standalone center that all of our state, local, city, county agencies can congregate, be able to plan those emergencies and do the right things for the community.”

The county received over $3 million in a grant that will pay for the renovations and the new storm shelter.

Being next to the airport will facilitate working with the national guard during large emergencies.
