Warren County Public Schools is in need of more bus drivers

Warren County Public Schools currently has 19 openings in the transportation department.

“I have always enjoyed what I do. I still, right now, love it and I can’t imagine doing anything else," said Jackie Jordan, a Warren County Public Schools bus driver.

Warren County Public Schools is looking for more people like Jackie, to get behind the wheel.

“I like driving the bus. I like driving the big vehicle. I like being in control, being able to see well, and be safe. Of course, getting kids to school and home without incidents," adds Jordan.

Every day over 200 Warren County School buses transport nearly 16,000 students to and from school. With enrollment increasing by 300 students each year, the school district is growing at a fast pace. With more students, the district needs more staff.

“I think it would be a great position especially for someone who is a retiree or someone who is self-employed, because we have full benefits of course. We have increased pay around 20% in the past few years and it can be a part time or a full-time job,” says Jason Kupchella, the Warren County Public Schools Chief Operations Officer.

The school district is looking to hire twelve bus drivers, five bus monitors, and two diesel technicians. Officials say no experience is required to become a bus driver.

“We provide all training and that’s actually paid training so when anybody signs up as an employed bus driver. First thing, we are never going to put anybody on the road who is not ready for that responsibility. Our staff at the transportation department is phenomenal and they do a great job at training everyone,” adds Kupchella.

Jackie Jordan has been driving a school bus for the past ten years and she hopes more people will consider it.

“Give it a try, absolutely give it a try! I was very nervous when I first started, very nervous, didn’t think I’d be able to do this, but let me tell you, it gets your heart and it gets you in there. I think anyone who gives it a try will love it,” adds Jordan.
