Warren County Public Schools hosts Student Lighthouse Team Leadership Summit
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Hundreds of students from Warren County Public Schools worked together Tuesday to master their leadership skills.
The Student Lighthouse Team Leadership Summit is an annual event where the Leader in Me Lighthouse teams from each of the county’s schools unite for social and emotional learning.
This program teachers leadership skills throughout the school system from Pre-K to high school, but it is more than just learning.
Justin Spears, leadership coordinator for Warren East High School, says, “We cheer when they come in. We cheer when they leave. We fist bump them. Kids, they just love to be here. And that makes my job a lot easier, knowing that I have 250 kids in there that want to learn and grow and are empowered to go back and make a difference.”
Autumn Sheffield, fourth-grade teacher at Alvaton Elementary, says, “I think these events are amazing for especially younger or first year lighthouse students because it will stick with you for as long as…from now to you’re teenage till your adult age.”
Kenzie Carmine, eighth-grade teacher at South Warren Middle, says, “I really like this event. I think it is a great opportunity for students to be able to get to know one another and to work on their leadership skills.”
The Leader in Me program is a partnership between the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce and Warren County Public Schools.
It teaches the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People to students in order for them to grow together and master communication, problem solving and teamwork.
The program is just another way that schools are working to produce successful graduates.
