Warren County Public Schools hosting frozen turkey drive
WARREN COUNTY, Ky. – This holiday season, even one donation can make all the difference for a local family.
Warren County Public Schools is once again hosting its frozen turkey drive to help families across the community enjoy a full Thanksgiving meal.
The yearly drive will take place November 3 through November 14 at the WCPS Central Office, 303 Lovers Lane in Bowling Green. Donations will be accepted Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Ben Kirtley, Director of Family Resource and Youth Services, said this effort shows the power of community support.
“This isn’t just Warren County Schools doing it,” Kirtley said. “This is our community coming together to make sure our families are taken care of at Thanksgiving.”
The district partners with House on the Hill, which provides boxes filled with Thanksgiving essentials like mashed potatoes, corn, rolls, and stuffing. The turkeys donated by the community complete those meals for families in need.
Last year, the district distributed about 150 food boxes, and this year the goal is to collect 200 full boxes.
“Every time there’s a need expressed, our community comes together and provides, and they always come through,” Kirtley said. “It warms my heart to know our community’s always looking out for each other.”
Kirtley added that each year the drive continues to grow, thanks to the generosity of local residents.
“We try to set these goals,” he said, “but most of the time we shatter them because every year it does grow.”
