Warren County Public Schools comments on Amendment 2
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – One of the most contested races in this year’s election didn’t involve candidates or any parties.
It simply involved tax dollars, and deciding whether they should be able to go toward private schools.
That is, of course, Amendment 2, and Tuesday night, the state voted no on the so-called school choice amendment.
If passed, this would have allowed public funding to go towards a parent’s choice of education.
Warren County Public Schools released a statement Tuesday saying they’re pleased that Amendment 2 was defeated, ensuring that their resources “remain focused on providing quality education for all students.”
We spoke to superintendent Rob Clayton, who believes this vote sends a simple message: facts matter:
“Each and every day that we were able to share the potential impact of Amendment 2, but then also being a position to explain that the false promises of teacher raises and an increase to the education budget… those were not going to be positive outcomes of Amendment 2, and I believe our constituents did their homework, and we’re going to be better off for that,” he says.
Clayton also says he’s optimistic about the potential of gaining full funding for things like transportation and early childhood education.
