Warren County Public Library to host Black History Month events

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Warren County Public Library is hosting multiple events in honor of Black History Month.

The following events will be taking place in Bowling Green throughout the month of February:

  • Remembering Alice Dunnigan: Saturday, Feb. 1 at 6 p.m. at The Capitol.
    • Bailey Vandiver kicks off WCPL’s Black History Month celebration with an enriching presentation on Russellville’s own Alice Dunnigan, the first Black woman to be credentialed to the White House & Capitol press corps in 1947.
  • An Evening with Phyllis Biffle Elmore: Thursday, Feb. 6 at 6 p.m. at the Bob Kirby Branch.
    • Phyllis Biffle Elmore is a retired veteran of the US Air Force and Army, whose career has included working as a counselor for incarcerated youth, survivors of domestic violence, and people suffering from substance abuse.
  • Dr. Joshua Bennett Book Giveaway: Saturday, Feb. 8 at all library locations.
    • Book giveaways will be hosted on a first-come, first-served basis starting on Saturday, February 8, and will be hosted at all library locations. Copies of Dr. Joshua Bennett’s poetry collection Spoken Word: A Cultural History will be given away.
  • Free movies at the Capitol:
    • ” A Raisin in the Sun” (subtitled) on Monday, Feb. 6 at 2 and 6:30 p.m.
    • “Love and Basketball” on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 6:30 p.m.
    • “Black Panther” (co-sponsored by BG Freedom Walkers) on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 6:30 p.m.
    • “Soul” (Craft Movie) on Sunday, Feb. 16 at 2 p.m.
    • “Us” on Thursday, Feb. 20 at 6:30 p.m.
    • “Crooklyn” on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 5 p.m.
    • “Do the Right Thing” on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 7:15 p.m.
