Warren County Public Library offers engagement program for special needs community

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-Adults with special needs have a unique opportunity to connect in Bowling Green. Special needs patrons engage in creative activities and listen to book readings.

A large group of around 35 special needs adults along with their care givers showed up to participate on Wednesday at the Warren County Public Library.

The Night Before Christmas was among the stories read.

Wednesday, a volunteer reader, and the organizer of the program, spoke about why this event is so important.

“They’re here to be able to grow and develop and to have pleasure in listening. It’s important for every group, especially this group,” said Richard Poole, volunteer reader.

“I kind of think of it as kind of a club house. A club for our special needs friends,” said Earl Willis, Special Needs Liaison, Warren County Public Library.

Willis said they are always welcoming new participants, and it takes place the second Wednesday of every month at the library’s downtown location.
