Warren County organizations come together to clean up Weldon Peete Park
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Local organizations made their way to Weldon Peete Park to help clean up the greenways near the Barren River.
The Kentucky Waterways Alliance teamed up with Warren County Stormwater, Bowling Green Parks & Rec, Warren County Parks & Rec and the City of Bowling Green to help address litter in the area.
The Waterways Alliance received a grant from Hydro Flask’s Parks for All program, which aims to help in the clean up process of parks across the seven river basins in the Commonwealth.
Organizers of the cleanup were surprised to see so many people turn out to help pick up trash.
“As we do these cleanups across the state, it’s been really heartening to see how important clean water is to Kentuckians… it truly is our greatest natural resource, and to see this many people come out on a Saturday, hot Saturday morning when they could be doing many other things… it just makes us feel really good about the future of our waterways,” Susan Griffin Ward with the Kentucky Waterways Alliance says.
Warren County Stormwater’s Andrea Strange also says one of the most obvious pollutants of the rivers here in Warren County are litter, so she was excited to help out in the process of cleaning up the Barren River area.
