Warren County library offers free help for students

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WNKY) — As students settle into another school year, the Warren County Public Library is reminding families that help with homework, technology and studying is available for free across its locations.
Students can use free Wi-Fi and computers at the library, along with a limited number of free prints each day. For those who may not have reliable internet or technology at home, Marketing Manager Megan Miles said the library can fill that gap.
“Our goal is to break barriers to access,” Miles said. “So students can come here and if they don’t have technology or internet at home, you can do your work here.”
Homework, test prep and research help
Students can also find academic resources through the library’s online databases.
Those include research and homework help, ACT test preparation, driver’s test resources and career preparation. Learning Express Library offers additional help for fourth- through eighth-grade students in math, social studies and language arts.
For students who need somewhere quiet to work, the Lisa Rice Library and Bob Kirby Branch have private study rooms.
“They’re little enclosed spaces with a door and that you can go in and read, research, do your assignments,” Miles said. “And you just have to go to the desk and reserve one.”
A place to go after school
The library is also a place for students to spend time once the school day ends.
“The library is a welcoming, safe space for students, especially our Bob Kirby branch, which is right next to Greenwood High School,” Miles said.
She said teenagers regularly come to the branch after school. Activities include teen theater, improv and free movies at the Capitol, along with other programs for different age groups.
Parents looking for books for younger students can also find recommended reading lists organized by age and grade level. Miles said the lists include librarian-recommended books for children ranging from those preparing for kindergarten through middle school.
Getting started
Families who have not used the library before can visit whichever branch is closest to them.
Library cards are free. Miles said new cardholders are also given information explaining the library’s basic resources and services.
