Warren County judge assigned to Letcher County sheriff case

LETCHER COUNTY, Ky. – A Warren County judge is now assigned to the shooting case involving the death of a Letcher County judge.

According to an order supplied by the Administrative Office of the Courts, Honorable Christopher T. Cohron, circuit judge of the Eighth Judicial Circuit, division 1, of Warren County is assigned temporarily with “authority to retain jurisdiction of case 24-CR- 00204, Commonwealth of Kentucky v. Shawn Stines, until its conclusion or further order of the chief justice.”

Former Letcher County sheriff Shawn “Mickey” Stines is accused in the fatal courthouse shooting of District Judge Kevin Mullins in Letcher County.

Stines pleaded not guilty in November on a single count of murder of a public official, according to the Associated Press.

Cohron normally serves as a judge at the Warren County Justice Center at 1001 Center St. in Bowling Green.
