Warren County hosts Anchor Project forum to discuss Mental Health Court
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A forum at the Warren County Justice Center looks to help address the mental health crisis in the region.
Local officials and resources from the community were on hand to learn about what’s being called Mental Health Court… where instead of someone getting sentenced and possibly going back through the legal system, they can now get access to resources and the help they need.
This will allow for a better recidivism rate, and make sure everyone is able to overcome a mental health crisis should they be in one.
“We’ve always said that the criminal justice system is a poor substitute for mental health treatment… these programs are going to allow public safety to be in the forefront, but use all of the service providers we have across Warren County to assist people that are in a mental health crisis,” Judge Chris Cohron of the 8th District Circuit Court says.
Now that the court system knows all the resources that are available in the community, their next step is to make sure they have staff that can provide those resources to those who need them.
