Warren County Health Department renovations underway
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – For the first time since the 1990s, the Warren County Health Department is undergoing a significant renovation, marking a pivotal moment in the department’s history.
The long-awaited upgrade aims to modernize facilities and enhance public health services for the community. The renovation project, which began in late 2023, is a response to the growing need for energy efficiency in the building as well as improve infrastructure. The original building, which has been in use since the ’50s.
For the last 13 months, there has been a complete overhaul of the facility’s interior layout which is still underway and improved accessibility for clients. Key goals of the project is to create a more efficient and welcoming environment for both staff and visitors, as well as put the entirety of the 55,000 square foot building to use.
News 40 spoke to Matthew Hunt, the district director for the Barren River Area Health Department, who said the basement was unusable with the HVAC unit on its last leg, as well as roof damage and other needed repairs.
Staff are excited for the renovation, which will allow their office to be 100% functional, as opposed to the previously estimated 60%. The modernization of the building will make things easier on clients, as well as allow for meetings in the building rather than finding another space as they have done in the past.
Though they are still under construction, the health department is still open Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
