Warren Co. school hosts 2024 Repair-a-palooza
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – At Warren County Public Schools’ Warren Central High School, the second annual “Repair-a-palooza” got underway Monday, giving students a chance of gaining some real world experience as well as a different outlook on life.
Students who are part of the Student Technology Leadership Program at Warren East were busy fixing Chromebooks as well as some other widely used devices with the help of the school system and local business uBreakiFix today, giving them some real world experience and the knowledge to know you can be capable of a lot with the dedication.
News 40 spoke to Dustin Pitts, a WCPS Computer Technician who sponsors the program. He said kids are in a professional setting, being expected to complete their tasks in an efficient manner, “Even though it is volunteer, it’s treated like a job”.
Pitts also affirmed that the students were gaining an independence and confidence in entering the adult world, saying this translates into fixing things around the house or business setting. Adam Sumner echoed the same, who is co-owner of uBreakiFix in Bowling Green.
Today, he brought in extra technology such as phones, iPads and video game consoles to be worked on at the behest of the school who wanted to give kids more experience. Sumner said that students are so eager to crack open a phone and poke around and it goes beyond just household tech, he said it applies to plumbing and many other fields.
