Warren Central falls short 43-42 in State Championship
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Warren Central Dragons fell just short in the 2022 UK Healthcare Boys Sweet Sixteen Title game, 43-42, against the No. 1 ranked George Rogers Clark Cardinals.
The Dragons stunned the Covington Catholic Colonels earlier this afternoon in the semi-finals, 61-58, to advance to the championship game.
Warren Central juniors Omari Glover and Chapelle Whitney were the only two Dragons in double figures, leading the way with 10 points apiece. Damarion Walkup contributed to the scoreboard with eight points. Senior, Jaiden Lawrence, closed out his high school career with five points.
The Cardinals were led by junior and Sweet Sixteen MVP, Jerone Morton. Morton led all scorers with 14 points.
GRC finished the season 37-1, winning their first State Title for the first time since 1951.
Warren Central’s Jaiden Lawrence, Omari Glover, and Izayiah Villafuerte were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Head Coach William Unseld and his group finish the 2021-22 season 29-4, 14th District Champions, 4th Region Champions, and State Tournament Runner-Ups.
