Volunteers urgently needed this week at BGStrong Disaster Recovery Center
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Several local organizations, including the City of Bowling Green, are leading local assistance to tornado survivors at the BGStrong Disaster Recovery Center. While FEMA is open every day from 8 am to 6 pm, the BGStrong effort is open from 8 am to 4 pm. From one location, people can register with FEMA and other state and federal organizations and also obtain assistance including household items, non-perishable foods, crisis counseling and more, all at one location. They are also working on transportation options to get people to the center.
They need MORE HELP! They are looking for local volunteers who are can do these things in support of the center:
- data entry,
- conducting intake interviews with people affected by the storm,
- shopping attendants, who assist people with obtaining items they need from the “store”
- *forklift operators (must be certified)
- unloading, sorting and restocking donated items
- general lifting and moving things
If you are trained in Charity Tracker, please help out with the data entry if you are able. They would like to have at least one trained person per time slot each day. The more trained volunteers the better! They will need to fill several time slots with individuals who are comfortable with intake and shopping attendant. If you would like to serve in either of these capacities (data entry/intake/shopping), sign up here
“If these roles are not for you, we can still use trusted volunteers each morning – doors open for people & donations at 8am. Lots of offloading, sorting, etc. to do! You do NOT have to signup for general volunteering. The signup list is only for the intake of impacted people to begin accessing the donations.”
If you have questions about the BGStrong effort and volunteering, email.
