Volunteers spend time working to assist Humane Society project
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Warren County is full of people who choose to volunteer for local non-profits.
Mary Akers has a full time job but has took time out of her busy schedule Thursday to volunteer with the Humane Society for several years.
This week, as the Humane Society is visited by Greater Good Charities to rebuild and restore portions of the property, Akers volunteered Thursday for an eight-hour shift and signed up for three more to help.
Akers is so passionate about animals and the Humane Society, she actually works for the shelter store sometimes.
“I first started, I have a 12-year-old son who is also an animal lover and when I came out three years ago, Tracy had some stuff that she was starting to do down at the education center and they needed some volunteers and we went to an open seminar kind of orientation, and we fell in love with Tracy and my son and I have been helping ever since. We really enjoy coming here and helping,” said Akers.
The Rebuild Restore effort still needs more people like Akers to sign up to help over the next week.
