Victim identified in Scottsville homicide

SCOTTSVILLE, Ky.-An investigation into the murder of a man found dead in Scottsville Tuesday night is underway.

Families members discovered the body of 37-year old Justin Wix outside of his rural mobile home that sits near the Kentucky/Tennessee state line.

Wix was found with multiple gunshot wounds, and police now believe that he was directly targeted in the killing. Allen County Coroner Darren Davis is a part of the investigation Wix’s murder. Davis has lived in Scottsville his entire life and has witnessed an uptick in homicides.

“Over the last 5 years the Allen County Coroners office has investigated approximately 9 homicides. The death rate in deaths in Allen County is probably up over the last 10 years,” said Darren Davis, Allen County Coroner.

Kentucky State Police have also noticed the increase in homicides and other violent crimes in the area.

“Everything usually goes in cycles unfortunately. I think that Scottsville and the surrounding county has seen an increase in violent crimes. From December of last year through May of this year,” said Jeremy Hodges, Public Information Officer at Kentucky State Police Post 3.

For those who have been accused in some of the homicides, drugs and alcohol have been involved.

“Drugs and alcohol plague not only Allen County, but they plague a multitude of places. The drugs have become deadlier and the things leaking into our community,” said Keith Patrick, Associate Pastor at East Willow Church of God.

Some of the other homicides include a 2015 murder of a seven-year-old child, in 2017 a man was shot to death and an investigation into a double shooting and murder that happened last month is still underway.

Kentucky State Police are asking anyone with information about Wix or the crime to contact Post 3.
