VH Dream Center discusses support during Alcohol Awareness Month

SCOTTSVILLE, Ky.- Millions of people in America face AUD, also known as alcohol use disorder.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Kentucky has the third highest rate of binge drinking in the U.S. Many people who struggle with alcohol addiction don’t typically see the issue until things get out of control.

Amy Payne, the director of the VH Dream Center, tells us, “Sometimes things become just unmanageable. When we try to do them on our own, when we find those supports that are available to us, we usually walk into a space that has someone who may be saying, taking their first step. Just know that we’re not walking alone is sometimes the added strength we need just to get up and take that next day.”

She also shares that knowing that you’re not alone makes a world of difference when it comes to taking action.

She says, “But one thing that is kind of a given that I’ve learned, in the last nine years, walking this journey myself is that, life is better when it’s done together. And that includes whether that’s a struggle or that’s a celebration or a relationship or anything else. And so my advice would be take the first step and because once you do, you’re not alone anymore. You have someone to take it with you.”

If you are struggling or you know someone who’s struggling, you don’t have to move toward sobriety alone. For more information on the resources available, visit victoryhill.us/dream-center.
