Veteran’s nursing home is in the works for Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ky – It’s been a year since Andy Beshear signed legislation that would pave the way for a veteran’s nursing home in Bowling Green, and today, announcements were made about the progress.

A $30 million project for veterans is underway.

The Veteran’s home will house 60 veterans once completed, each with a private room and room for an expansion someday.

William Lytle has been instrumental in helping to get this project off the ground.

Lytle says he believe this is something Bowling Green needs desperately.

“You want veterans to work and retire in Bowling Green, then having a nursing home here would be an advantage to those people that are thinking about doing that,” said Lytle.

The building will most likely be located in the Transpark, but that decision has not been set in stone.

This will also open up at least 120 full time jobs in Bowling Green.

This comes after a study showed the need in the area, according to Mark Bowman, the executive director of the Office of Kentucky Veteran’s Centers.

This veteran’s home is a big deal for the military community in the area because there are only four others in the entire state, the closest is over an hour away.

“I think it’s great having a facility where you can look forward to visiting the people there and the plans that they have drawn up for this facility is going to make a lot of people a lot happier,” said Lytle.

The project financing is almost completed.

The goal is to break ground by next spring and have the project completed and ready to open within two years of the groundbreaking.
