UPDATE: Preliminary cause of Hart County child’s death confirmed by coroner

CUB RUN, Ky. – Further details have been released regarding the death of a child in Hart County.

On Wednesday, Hart Counter coroner Anthony Roberts confirmed the preliminary cause of death for 5-year-old Silas Shearer is drowning.

Shearer was reported missing out of Cub Run on Tuesday morning, prompting an Immediate Alert Notification around 8:30 a.m.

KSP Post 3 public affairs officer trooper Katan Parker says, “Troopers went on scene immediately. I mean, they went in route immediately. And when they got on scene, all of our efforts were exhausted trying to locate this child. And tragically, the child was found deceased. At the moment, our main focus is trying to be there with the family through this time of grief and support them the best we can.”

Shortly after 9 a.m., KSP confirmed Shearer was located dead.

Further details have not been released at this time.

An Ian Alert is a statewide network designed to help find missing children with special needs, particularly those with autism spectrum disorder, who are prone to wandering.
