UPDATE: New details available after arrest in online Warren County school threat

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Further details are now available regarding an 18-year-old arrested in connection with a threatening social media message involving a Warren County school.

According to a uniform citation, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office received a report on Tuesday regarding a threat to a school.

Deputies say a school resource officer of Warren East High School was notified by school administrators of a student that received a message of an alarming nature through Snapchat.

The citation states the image sent to the student was of a full box of ammunition in the lap of an unknown subject. The image had a written message across it threatening to “shoot up the school,” authorities say.

Deputies say similar threats had been made to multiple Warren County schools since Sept. 13.

Detectives located Tristan Cardwell, 18, of Roundhill at his place of employment, authorities say, where he agreed to speak with them.

During this time, authorities say Cardwell confirmed the Snapchat username that was reported was his and admitted to sending the image to several people.

Cardwell stated he purchased the ammo shown in the image earlier Tuesday, the citation says. Authorities say Cardwell said he has an “AR style rifle” at his residence.

Cardwell stated it was “dumb to send the message but had no intention on doing anything” and that “he thought it would be funny,” authorities say. When asked what school the message referred to, authorities say Cardwell confirmed it was Warren East High School.

Cardwell was placed in custody around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday and transported to the Warren County Detention Center.

He is charged with second-degree terroristic threatening.
