UPDATE: Glasgow law enforcement speaks on reported candy tampering
GLASGOW, Ky. – The Glasgow Police Department has issued a public safety warning after a disturbing discovery involving Halloween candy.
According to authorities, a concerned guardian found metal needles inside pieces of chocolate and immediately reported it to the police.
Major Terry Flatt of the Glasgow Police Department said this was the first incident of its kind in many years. The woman who reported the issue was visiting Glasgow to take her children trick-or-treating when she noticed that some of the candy had been tampered with, authorities say.
Police confirmed that needles were found inside two different types of chocolate.
Officials are urging everyone who went trick-or-treating in the Glasgow area to carefully check all candy, even if it appears to be sealed.
Flatt specifically advised residents to be cautious if they collected candy in the South Green area, where the tampered treats may have originated. The department is continuing to investigate the incident to determine how the candy was compromised.
Authorities remind the public to inspect all Halloween candy and report any suspicious items to local law enforcement immediately.
