UPDATE: Authorities execute search warrant after camera found in Grayson County High School restroom

LEITCHFIELD, Ky. – The Leitchfield Police Department says a search warrant was executed at a home outside of Leitchfield regarding the investigation into a camera being located in a bathroom at the Grayson County High School softball complex.

The warrant was obtained following a Kentucky State Police Electronic Crimes Branch investigation.

LPD says the home is “connected to a person of interest.”

“We will not be releasing any names of people at this time due to the current stage of the investigation,” said LPD Interim Police Chief Ian Renfrow.

The investigation is ongoing.

GRAYSON COUNTY, Ky. – Police say they responded to Grayson County High School last week regarding a reported recording device in a bathroom.

According to a release by Interim Chief of Police Ian Renfrow, on the evening of Sept. 17, officers responded to school property to conduct an investigation.

Authorities say the initial investigation was assigned to a school resource officer, who followed up on the information and confirmed the device had been found by middle school softball players, who reported the incident to a member of the coaching staff.

Police say they received information from a concerned parent, and the device was removed before officers had knowledge of the incident.

According to the release, officers and school staff “desperately searched for the device until learning that it may be in the possession of a member of the coaching staff.” At that time, police say the investigation was turned over from the SRO to a detective, with all relevant information shared with school staff.

Authorities say SROs at Grayson County High School and Grayson County Middle School, along with Leitchfield Police Department’s detective, have been conducting multiple interviews and have been following up on leads this week to gain answers.

At this time, the release says it can only be confirmed the investigation is active and will continue with the department’s full attention until it has answers.

According to police, there are multiple charges and avenues being investigated. Authorities say they are relying heavily on “very stale information.”

Renfrow stated, “I trust our investigation will come to a conclusion and we will have more answers at a later date. I am proud of the students who have stepped up and provided information to our officers and pray that each one of them understands how important their information has been in leading our investigation. We wish we would have been called when the incident was reported, however, like many cases, we are accustomed to working from behind, and it just causes our investigations to take longer, it certainly does not mean that we are intending to not investigate the incident.”
