GLASGOW, Ky.- Thursday evening, United Way of Southern Kentucky and Kynect held their community resource and partnership fair at the Ralph Bunche Community Center in Glasgow.

Numerous non-profit organizations, faith based communities, and community organizations were in attendance to show citizens of Glasgow what type of services they have to offer.

The event put all of these organizations together under one roof for community members to get a chance to find the organization that offers the resources that best fits their needs.

“The job I have as a Kynect Resource Specialist, we answer 211 calls. And out of those calls, we, get, you know, a lot of different people asking for different kinds of needs that they might have.” Said Barrett Wright, a Kynect Resource Specialist. “and based off those needs. I have sort of come up with this idea to bring all of the organizations that we have in our database together in one fair.” Wright added.

Kynect answers a lot of 211 calls from citizens in need of various different services. This event puts those resources in one place for them to look into and get the help that they need. A 211 is a number that you can call when you are in need of different health and human services.

When asked about the kind of services provided from these 211 calls, Megan Henness, Director of 211 Operations at United Way of Southern Kentucky described them as, “Education, health care, transportation, rental assistance. So, we provide that resource information of where they can go in the community to get help.”

Organizations such as BRADD, United Healthcare, Grant Ready Kentucky, and more were there showing off their services. Those in attendance were able to find the resources they needed and even potentially have some that could be of use in the future.

“They might not have that need you know, right at this moment. But something might come up. And so because of this fair, they might remember that source, they might have gained some kind of information, while they were here. And they know or they can share that with some of their family members or friends or something like that.” Wright said.
