Understanding the mental impact of the 2021 tornadoes

BOWLING GREEN, KY.- The December 2021 tornadoes affected everyone differently. Whether you were directly involved, or if you know people who were involved, the mental and emotional effects from the devastation can be long-lasting.

News 40 spoke to Lifeskills Inc. on the third-year anniversary. Volunteers with the organization were present that day, and they say most of the time people didn’t even know they were impacted until after the fact.
Whether you were within city limits or if you lived in the county, no one was left untouched by the storm.

Marieca Brown, a volunteer coordinator during the 2021 tornado recovery, shares the reality she faced that day. She says, “ It was just devastating when we came into town to go to church Sunday morning. The whole landscape has changed, but it’s amazing to see how God can work in such chaos.”

Though the storms happened three years ago and Bowling Green has had a chance to rebuild, some of the damage and scars you can’t see, but you are encouraged to reach out for help by contacting 988 or a close friend or family member.
