UNCC shooting: “we just heard a loud bang”

(NBC News) An accused gunman is in custody after opening fire on the University of North Carolina Charlotte campus Tuesday, killing two people and wounding four others.

“All of a sudden we just heard a loud bang near the window,” one student said.

Police responded to the scene within minutes of receiving a call reporting an active shooter.

“We were able to get to the building and our officers immediately went to the suspect and take him down,” said UNCC Safety and Security Chief Jeff Baker.

Trystan Terrell, 22, was quickly taken into custody.

“He said nothing,” Baker said, referring to the suspect. “Our officers’ actions definitely saved lives, there’s no doubt about that.”

Ellis Parlier, 19, and Riley Howell, 21, were killed in the shooting.

Police said Wednesday that Terrell did not know the victims.
