Ukranian woman in Kentucky worries about safety of friends

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WLKY) – Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has hit home for 22-year-old Svetlana Wade, who has lived in Kentucky since the holidays and cannot return to Ukraine.

Wade and her three siblings were adopted by a Louisville family  when she was 17 years old.

Despite being safe with her adoptive family, Wade said she can feel the attack unfolding in Ukraine taking a toll on her.

“We’re here, but we know Ukraine is her home. It’s their home it’s where they grew up and obviously, we want them to be able to go back to the same place they grew up if that’s where they want to. It’s where they’re from.”

“Are they protecting themselves in our land? Our people are dying.”

Wade said she can’t sleep since she is overwhelmed by the destruction and death in Ukraine as Russia’s invasion continues.
