U.S. Coast Guard Band performs at First Baptist Church in Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Monday night, the U.S. Coast Guard Band performed for Bowling Green at the First Baptist Church…

The sanctuary was filled with music, but not the kind you would hear every Sunday.

“We’re touring all throughout district eight, to different states and, just spreading the word of the Coast Guard, telling people the story of the Coast Guard and all the missions that they do,” Jeffery Spenner with the U.S. Coast Guard says.

They decided to come to Bowling Green because of a local connection with one of its members.

“Bowling Green has a little bit of a special place to at least one of the members of our band’s hearts. Chief Musician Wes Mayhew, who is our bass trombonist… He actually went to undergrad at Western Kentucky University, and he’s from Glasgow, Kentucky… so he’s a little bit of a hometown hero… whenever we go on tour, we try to match up who’s from the area and where might be a special place to to go that maybe brings in an audience that is near and dear to my heart,” Spenner says.

If you’re interested in hearing them perform, there’s plenty of stops to hear them. Just visit uscg.mil/band.

“We are a congressionally appointed premier band, full of some of the best musicians that I could ever literally shake a stick at… check us out. I think you won’t be disappointed… and go Coast Guard,” Spenner says.
