Two school districts close due to flu outbreak
RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. – Russellville Independent Schools and Hart County Schools will be closed Thursday and Friday due to an influenza outbreak.
“There is a significant number of students absences, and many of them are reporting confirmed cases of the flu,” Superintendent Bart Flener said. “We have seen our attendance trend down throughout the week with today’s attendance being at 88 percent district-wide.”
Normal attendance is 95 percent or above.
A custodial company coming in to do some additional cleaning in Russellville. Additional staff will be called in to do a deep cleaning in all Hart County Schools buildings as well.
Flener is hopeful that in time closed, the germs will clear the air and students will have time to get back on their feet.
Hart County Schools attendance Tuesday was 87.25 percent, and along with that, school attendance at Munfordville Elementary School Wednesday was at 63 percent leading to the district’s decision to close schools after Wednesday’s districtwide drop again to 86.48 percent attendance, Debbie Fowler, assistant superintendent of Hart County schools.
“They have been hit hard, teachers and students,” Fowler said of Hart County Schools.
