Two dead following McCreary County crash

STEARNES, Ky. – Two people are dead following a crash in McCreary County.
According to the Kentucky State Police, troopers received a report on Tuesday around 12:51 p.m. of a single-vehicle injury collision on U.S. Highway 27 in the Stearns community of McCreary County.
Troopers say a preliminary investigation found a gray 2008 Toyota 4Runner driven by 68-year-old Pearl Goodin of Parkers Lake was traveling southbound on U.S. 27 when it exited the road.
Authorities say the vehicle then struck a guardrail.
The driver then overcorrected, officials say, causing the vehicle to overturn multiple times.
Authorities say the passenger and driver were not wearing a seat belt and were ejected from the vehicle.
The McCreary County coroner pronounced the driver, Pearl Goodin, dead at the scene. The passenger, 73-year-old James Goodin of Parkers Lake, was transported by McCreary County EMS to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead by the attending emergency room physician.
Next of kin have been notified. Toxicology results are pending for both occupants, though officials say drugs and alcohol are not believed to be contributing factors at this time.
The investigation is ongoing. KSP was assisted on scene by Kentucky State Police Post 11 London personnel, McCreary County EMS, McCreary County Coroner’s Office, McCreary County Sheriff’s Office, and North McCreary County Fire Department.
