Two Bowling Green attorneys receive statewide recognition
BOWLING GREEN Ky.- During the Kentucky Bar Association’S annual convention, two attorneys from Bowling Green’s English Lucas Priest and Owsley, also known as ELPO Law, received statewide recognition.
On Wednesday the University of Kentucky College of Law honored Whayne C. Priest Jr. with the Legacy Award.
“You can’t practice law halfway. It’s either all or nothing,” Priest said.
This award is given to one person annually who graduated from the UK Law School 50 or more years ago, who demonstrates not only great leadership in the profession, but also in the community.
Then on Thursday, the Kentucky Bar Association honored Charles “Buzz” English Jr. with the Distinguished Lawyer Award.
“It’s a great honor. I was totally surprised when I found out that I had been named for the honor,” English Jr. said.
English isn’t the only one in his family to receive this accolade. His father, Charles English, was a recipient of the Distinguished Lawyer Award in 1999.
“It’s very humbling and very gratifying. I’m very proud of him. He has done a lot for the Commonwealth, for the Kentucky Bar and the community, and serving on national committees,” English said.
As English Jr. continues to serve in the field of law and his community, he says he’ll always carry this achievement with him, and the great duties that come with it.
“It feels great. It’s a distinguished group. There have been other lawyers here in Bowling Green that have received the award and that’s even more special,” English Jr. said.
