TVA announces proposed energy project locations in Logan and Todd counties

ELKTON, Ky. – The Tennessee Valley Authority has announced preferred locations for a new switching station and transmission line in Logan and Todd counties.

According to the TVA, the selected locations are expected to have the least impact on the area.

This is based on public input from an in-person open house and virtual open house, along with additional consideration of other factors, including social, environmental and engineering impacts, officials say.

A National Environmental Policy Act review is pending.

The TVA’s Stokes Switching Station will be located on the west side of Old Trenton Road just north of Hadden Road, with a power line starting there and extending east to the existing Cave Springs Switching Station.

The TVA says it will meet with property owners along this proposed right of way to obtain easements for construction, operation and maintenance of the project.

Property owners would still own the property, officials say, and they would be compensated for the easements at fair market value.

The TVA is expecting to begin surveys in fall 2025 and start acquiring easements in summer 2026. Construction is scheduled to start in summer 2027 and be completed in fall 2028.
