Trump’s coal executive order set to help make power easily accessible

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Tuesday, President Donald Trump signed four executive orders looking to boost the coal industry, which has been in decline for a while now. One Kentucky groups says this is going to be a great thing.

Kentucky has been a huge part of using coal, as the Commonwealth relies on it for about 68% of its power.

These orders will allow older coal plants to continue to produce electricity to meet the rising demand for power.

Dependable Power First Kentucky says that the threat towards coal has taken a direct hit on the competitive edge Kentucky has, and says this executive order is a great thing for those who need power during storms like we’ve seen recently.

“Any action from the federal government, and particularly in this case from the Trump administration to try and slow the attacks on coal and try and ease up the regulations that are driving a lot of that activity to close these coal plants is welcome news for us,” executive director Katelyn Bunning says.

The group also says that this will help unlock new opportunities for economic growth and development in the Commonwealth as well as protect Kentuckians from losing power.
