Trump concedes defeat on census fight

(NBC News) President Trump has admitted defeat in his push to put a citizenship question on the 2020 census.

“The case is already in three federal district courts that have been, to be totally honest, extremely unfriendly to us,” he said Thursday.

Mr. Trump said that instead of issuing an executive order to place the question on the census, he’ll ask federal agencies to compile citizenship records from existing databases.

“Knowing this information is vital to formulating sound public policy,” he said. “We will leave no stone unturned.”

The census decision came as the president prepares for mass deportation raids this weekend in at least ten major U.S. cities, prompting outrage across the country.
